Where Rest is Found

Let me tell you about my Jesus!

Every year on Labor Day, I celebrate the anniversary of the day I found TRUE REST from the labor of addiction. My true rest was found in a Person, the LORD Jesus Christ!

I give God glory for His faithfulness to keep me by His power!

These words found in some of my favorite hymns are the perfect way to tell you about my Jesus…

“Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

And can it be that I should gain
An int'rest in the Saviour's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?”

— Charles Wesley

That hymn brings tears to my eyes when we sing it at church. It describes the amazing love and power of Jesus to save and to deliver!! God is love and ALL power—in heaven and on earth—belongs to HIM.

You can find rest in His Love and Power.

“Heav'n above is softer blue,
Earth around is sweeter green!
Something lives in ev'ry hue
Christless eyes have never seen:
Birds with gladder songs o'erflow,
Flow'rs with deeper beauties shine,
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine;
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine.”

— George Wade Robinson

‘Jesus satisfies the last aching abyss of the human soul!’ It’s true!

His peace that He gives transcends human understanding. I have peace because Jesus is God Almighty and nothing comes into my life without His permission.

You can find rest in His Providence and Protection.

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Saviour am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.”

— Fanny J. Crosby

I thank God for the sweet security knowing I’m accepted in Christ Jesus. That acceptance is not because of what I have done—but because of Who HE is. What joy and peace there is in that truth!!

You can find rest in Who He Is.

He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heav'nly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Refrain:
He leadeth me! He leadeth me!
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful foll'wer I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes 'mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,
By waters still, o'er troubled sea,
Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me.

Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since 'tis my God that leadeth me.

And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy grace the vict'ry's won,
E'en death's cold wave I will not flee,
Since God thro' Jordan leadeth me.

— Joseph H. Gilmore

I’m so thankful for God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide me! God has given everything I need to know Him more and to live this life according to His Will. Time with Him in His Word every morning has changed my life!

You can find rest in His Word.

“Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
'Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.”

— Louisa M. R. Stead

This life—this daily personal relationship with Jesus—is a ‘life on the Potter’s wheel.’ It’s about yielding to the Holy Spirit instead of the flesh. I know HE must increase, but I must decrease. It’s a daily choice to keep my eyes on Him while serving Him in His power. I’m weak but HE is strong. ‘Oh my need, but OH HIS SUPPLY!

You can find rest in His Grace.

God has been so faithful and these years since He delivered me from addiction have been the best years of my life!

You can find rest in His Faithfulness.

I do praise and honor the Lord Jesus today.

He is my King.

All to Him I owe.

I love Him!!

And truly this life is ALL about HIM!!
