What No One Ever Told Me

I’m taking a chance here and just writing what’s on my heart…no one ever told me getting older would be like this.

There’s this idea that no one really has much of a life after 50—you know—once you are “over the hill.”  Well, guess what, I’m way over that hill and finding treasure!!

How can a life be measured in years when eternity has no end?

For the saved child of God, eternal life is already in progress! When our years here on earth grow closer to being finished, that only serves to make each day more precious.

Here’s another thing no one ever told me…

Most of my life I held the hope that someday I’d finally overcome all my insecurities and struggles and have it “all together.”

Guess what. That day never happened!

But something better happened: I stopped hoping for that day and discovered my need IS the blessing.

The Apostle Paul explains it this way in 2 Corinthians 12:9…

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

I’m learning that by God’s grace, in Christ Jesus, I am made whole…secure in His perfect love.

God created each of us with strengths and weaknesses. None of us were created to be whole without Him. It’s the moments we let Him be The Strength in our weakness that we ARE being who He created us to be.

No one told me that life after 50 would still be so beautiful—an unending adventure in grace! Living in dependence on God and growing in His grace is HOW we know Him more.

One last note…another blessing of getting older is the opportunity to learn how God gives a special grace in each season of life for which there had not been the need before. Truly, great is His faithfulness!!

Until next time—signing off from over the hill! : )
